The West Dorset and East Devon coastal strip of this area is commonly
known as the Jurassic Coast. It is now, deservedly, a World Heritage
Site and is
well worth visiting if only for the chance of finding a fossil
or two to take home. But walkers who don't mind clambering along
this roller coaster of a coast will find that the climbs will reward
them with stunning views. Well-known seaside resorts such as Lyme
Regis and Sidmouth make a welcome break from the walking.
The Teignmouth and Torbay area also boasts plenty of good walking opportunities - and the hikes get particularly interesting once you pass south of Brixham and enter the area known as the South Hams. This area is so rich in hikes it could easily command a website of its own. |
