Crackington Haven has been featured in this column several times - it offers some of the most dramatic walking along Cornwall's north coast. Now a local farm is offering wildlife, habitat and wild flower walks in the area.

Every Thursday afternoon (2.0 until 5.0) walkers can explore fascinating and beautiful Chyrond Farm by following a number of specially laid out trails through the woods, valleys and fields. Admission £2 per person - phone 01840 230617 for details.

A New Tintagel circular walk
The £3 million regeneration project of Tintagel village and castle, completed last year, tied together the community's ancient roots and the innovative design which re-created the area in an attempt to enhance its natural beauty. As part of the project a three-mile circular walk was developed to take in the most awe-inspiring places and spectacular scenery in the area.

The trail takes visitors from Trevena Square, in the heart of the village, up to the majestic cliff tops and the legendary castle, then back to the village, taking in some of the most captivating and beautiful scenery along the way - taking in St Materiana's church, Tintagel Island, Merlin's Cave and Barras Nose.

The highlight of the walk is of course the impressive island and castle of Tintagel. The place was thought to be a fortress for ancient Cornish Kings. It has long been connected with the Legend of King Arthur and is often referred to as 'King Arthur's Castle'. Aside from its Arthurian connection, Tintagel Castle holds many other secrets and surprises with discoveries of pottery from the 5th and 6th Century's, beautiful glass pieces from 6th and 7th century and even a 1,500 year old piece of slate with two Latin inscriptions, one inscription translating as 'Artougnou, father of a descendant of Coll'. No one really knows who this person was - the entire island remains shrouded in mystery.
